Is this show unnecessary violent?

I've always been a big fan of Silent Witness since the first Sam Ryan days (maybe I've lost a little bit of interest now Harry has gone) but, I'm beginning to feel uncomfortable by how overly violent and bloody thirsty it seems to be. I'm not against violence / gore / blood / nudity in shows, but, only if it works within the show and I do feel that Silent Witness may be a tad unnecessary overly violent. Am I the only one?

I agree. I'm rarely squeamish and I know SW has always been violent because of the nature of the characters job, but, I've found that the last series or two has gone way too graphic with some of the violence and it's unnecessary. I'd rather a good story with good characters that can be scary rather than over the top violence

I loved Waking the Dead, Boyd and Grace. Such a shame it's ended

its gone from chopping and dicing organs, flesh and bone to police work. you barely see any pathology going on

Surely the last 2 episodes must have cost a lot of money as they are set in Afghanistan, shot in Spain though.

As for the prosthetics they often used pig meat I heard which isn't that expensive really...
