Series 18 - what a great start - spoilers

Wow, what a terrific opener. SW hasn't been anywhere near this good since the Pomp of Harry and Nikki at least 5 years ago (Voids / Run etc.)

I know it is a re-tread of a real life situation in the USofA. But is was so well done. Much better than the last few seasons.

I thought the cheating brother of the deaf groom got off lightly, he couldn't even remember what series of car it was and did nothing when a car parked perpendicular to them, took no notice of the registration (which would have solved the whole show immediately I guess) which was pointing right at him, and then just legged it to the wedding rehearsal whilst keeping quiet that the bride isn't turning up because she is dead. What a total git.....

I also thought it showed up the dumb obsession that senior cops have with Public Relations and the absolute and total hypocrisy of the press. "It's been 24 hours and you haven't arrested somebody.... anybody will do"

What did the press expect, the officer to pull a face and a name out of thin air as if nothing had been learned from the Christopher Jefferies debacle. "Give us a name, any name, we'll destroy him and then come after you for giving us the wrong name...."

Fantastic stuff guys, keep it up.

Really enjoyed this episode. Exciting. Tense. Tragic. I liked Jack a lot in this episode. Tom seemed to be in a different episode though

As s side note, Nikki's jogger was really cute

Looking forward to the next episodes with the trains aswell. I haven't been this hopeful for a SW series for a few years

Was I the only one hoping the DCI would punch that bitchy stuck up Police press officer ?

I got the feeling, though I don't think it was confirmed, that her ex-boyfriend / boss was sleeping with / hoping to sleep with the press officer...

It was certainly set up that way, particularly with the "Path of least resistance" line that came up twice....

I just finished this 2-parter and was a bit let down. The bit with drawing everyone out of the station so someone could be shot was really telegraphed from the moment the smoke alarm went off. More egregiously, the ending where Jack is wired & gets a confession? Please, any teen who's seen a single cop show knows that trick.

I still love the programme and look forward to the next arc, but this series 18 opener fell short for me in the writing. Just my two cents, hope I'm not mashing any toes with the opinion.
