Roberto Prado vs Corralles (9-15)

Mr. Prado is the hot defendant from California who sold SΓ©norina Corrales a 2004 car without a smogger certificate, which meant she could not register it without smogging (which is very expensive, apparently). She had already invested $5,000 in mechanical work, has had it 'garaged' for months, no registration - and was suing sexy Roberto for everything - but wanted to keep the car as a souvenir of her bad experience.

Judge Judy said: "No, no, no, no....I will give you the $2100 back [price she paid for the car], but not for the money you invested in it or garage fees. AND Mr. Prado gets his car back!"

Said Corrales, "Bahjawonner, I can no drive the car..."

Judge Judy explained that's why he gets it back - and she gets her purchase price refunded. She also explains to Corralles that she can't keep the car, and she was an idiot to spend $5K on a car she didn't have registered. Nor should she have garaged it for so long.

Corrales pleaded once again, "Bahjawonner...." to which Judge Judy responded:

"We're done. Your case is dismissed. Goodbye."

Question about the case: Was anyone else as shocked as I was to find out Prado was straight??? Apparently he got the car from his ex wife. Man, my gaydar was off the charts on this young hunk! 

I thought him straight, pvd 

interesting ...

I just sold a car in California ...it had to be smogged before I could sell it, so I am not sure Jj was correct.

Your gaydar may very well be correct- they got a divorce for a reason, right :)

What exactly is 'smogged' and how expensive is it? We don't have anything like that here in New England, so this is very unfamiliar to me...but interesting.

I was thinking that, as well! LOL. I would love to 'smog' Mr. Prado!

Smogging is emissions testing.

Here in Arizona it costs like $20 for a modern car they can just plug into the computer. What's funny is, my old dual side-pipe exhaust Cutlass they had to drag a bunch of hoses, extensions, splitters, etc. out and plumb up, rev it up and down and take about 15 minutes to do... that was $9.

Actually, we do have emissions testing in New England, it's mandatory in CT.

costs us closer to $50, pvd 

unless your car has been chosen for a 'special' test because of its age. then it is nearer 100.

We have two wheelchair van...the older one is 16 years old ...it is a back up for emergencies. and it has been chosen twice for the special test.

We have added testing because we are east of the Bay Area. Their pollution overwhelms our valley and our air is bad. so we have the special testing and the bay area does not  Not Fair!!!

Yes, I just looked it up for RI - we do have emission tests for cars every two tears, at a cost of $55.

Thanks everyone for answering - I'm familiar with 'emission tests' but never heard of 'smogged', which is used frequently in her CA cases.

I have not driven since I lived in Rhode Island in 2007. Here in California, cars have something fitted in the exhaust system so that they don't emit any fumes. It's lovely! Ordinary cars have NO SMELL! I often walk by hundreds of them idling in rush-hour traffic in downtown L.A. There is no exhaust smell or gasoline smell whatsoever.
Did you ever watch The Price Is Right in the 80s or 90s? The announcer would read out the details of the cars people could win. "California Emission" was always one of the features included in the price.

Very well put together for a straight guy! Lol

Also, I was like "wtf are they talking about 'smogged'?" Until they cleared it up. I know what smog is, but have never heard that term used before in cars. And i have owned several! Here in Virginia we have to get what is called Emission inspections (which I guess is what "smog certificates" is) to register our car yearly or bi yearly. And yearly safety inspections. In all my 28 years I have never heard emissions inspection referres to as smogged or smog certificate!

The same rules were in Wisconsin where I lived. And it was 100% free. And only cars older than 5 years I believe were required to go to the emission test.

Nice! Yeah every state is different. I do find it funny, but it seems to be easier to get a gun in my state than going through the yearly hassle of owning a car. Insurance is a must, yearly safety inspections, yearly / biyearly car registrations, yearly / biyearly emissions inspection, and yearly property tax! It is a freaking joke! Yet buying a gun (which I own a few of) is just pass a one time background investigation and then good to go. No registration, no classes (unless you want a concealed carry permit), and no yearly property tax. I wish having a car was that easy!

Isn't this the truth. I wish our lawmakers would see things as clearly as you.

That is perfectly logical: Cars are MUCH more dangerous than guns.
