Technology proved the guy innocent (11-11)

On the 11-11 show, there was a plaintiff named Sheila who was suing her ex-boyfriend David (handsome guy), claiming that he was drunk in Las Vegas (and she wasn't) and he pushed her against the wall, causing an injury. In the middle of her testimony, she shed tears and had to swallow hard as she described the events of the evening - but for some odd reason, JJ didn't remind her 'this is not an audition'. Go figure.

Her story was typical drama making the defendant look like the bad guy who gets drunk and abuses women (of course, there were a few details in the story that didn't make her look good - like she was supplying him with drinks all night, and she told him his best friend has been hitting on her for the past few months). Battered woman at the hands of a drunk, who couldn't leave the room (for whatever reason).

Then it's the defendant's turn - he didn't have to say much, as he video-recorded the WHOLE incident on his phone - much to the delight of Judge Judy, and the chagrin of the plaintiff. He hands the phone over to Byrd, all cued up, tells him to press play - and there you go.

The video proved:

1. Sheila was more intoxicated than the defendant (who didn't look drunk at all), even though she claimed she had 'half a drink the whole night.

2. She got physical with him FIRST - slapping him across the face as he begged her to leave his room. (He then pushed her away from him in self-defense).

3. She instigated the fight and continued on with it, even though he went to the bathroom to clean up and kept telling her he didn't want to engage with her, and repeatedly asked her to leave the room. She stayed and kept fighting while intoxicated.

4. Defendant had a great body while washing up at the sink (too bad he didn't shower for us instead!!); I'd do him in a heart-beat.

Now, if he didn't have this video, things would have most likely worked against him. The 'battered woman' almost always wins, while the guy is almost always presumed guilty from the start.

Three cheers for technology, and for the defendant using technology to his advantage in getting the truth out.

Judge Judy would have sided with the defendant anyway- she clearly didn't believe the plaintiff right from the start.

I don't know about that.

She seemed 'perplexed' that the woman supplied him with more alcohol and then provoked him, but like she said - that's no cause for him hitting her. I think she would have sided with her if he only told her his side of the story (because he was talking Ebonics and she couldn't understand him when he did speak).
