The REAL phone call to Rent-a-Center !!

On many shows, Judge Judy calls Rent-a-center and inquires about a litigant's account. She's rather fast with her questions, and the person on the other hand is all too happy to help out.

Well, I found the transcripts to one of these phone calls (again!) and here's what actually happened on the phone. This was the case of LaQuatisha Jones suing her ex-fiance Pedro Ramirez for money he owes on the Rent-a-Center bill for the color TV. He says he returned the TV back in July, and there is no balance left.

Judy was going to get to the bottom of this with one phone call - and see who's lying.

JJ is Judge Judy; RC is 'Rent-a-Center'. She dials the phone, and the call is answered on the first ring!

RC: Thank You for calling Rent-a-Center.

JJ: Hello, this is Judge Judith Scheindlin. Whom am I speaking to?

RC: Please press 2 for Spanish.

JJ: Hi Susan, I have a case in front of me and I was hoping you can help me.

RC: Please press 3 for store locations and hours.

JJ: The account is in the name of Quisha Jones, and she says her remaining balance is $699 on the account for a color TV that wasn't returned.

RC: Please press 4 for Dining room furniture.

JJ: And when was the TV originally rented?

RC: Please press 5 for Living Room furniture.

JJ: And was the color TV returned?

RC: Please press 6 for Bedroom furniture.

JJ: I see. So that's why there is a balance left?

RC: Please press 7 for TVs and electronics.

JJ: Thank You, Susan, you've been most helpful.

RC: Please press 8 for our credit department.

JJ: Yes, it was a pleasure talking to you, too Susan.

RC: Please press 9 to repeat this menu.

JJ: Goodbye, and thank you.

JJ hangs up the phone and walks back to the bench.

"Well, Miss Jones, I just spoke to Susan, the manager of the store. She was most helpful. She said the remaining balance on your account is for the dining room set you still have outstanding. It has nothing to do with the television set that she said Mr. Ramirez returned on July 31. You're case is dismissed!"
