Button your shirt! (11-7)

Once again, Judge Judy's sexist attitude reared it's ugly head.

There was a male defendant on one of the cases (11-7) in which he was had a button down shirt with the top 2 buttons unbuttoned, which you could see some chest hair and a silver chain. Granted he was smug - but in a cute way. Within a minute, JJ yelled at him to button up his shirt, because "this was not an audition".

Why did he need to button his shirt?

Now, the female plaintiff had a low-cut top on which showed more of her skin than his did - but nothing was said.

How many times have women been on her show - especially minority women - with very low-cut clothing, most of their breasts hanging out and tattoos everywhere? And they come in 'with attitude'?

Not once has Judge Judy told them they were dresses inappropriately*, or told them this was not an audition.

Just last week we had the tall blond woman (who fraud the insurance company) with a wide open blouse showing all her tattoos across her chest from shoulder to shoulder. I don't recall JJ asking her to button up her blouse to her neck.

*A few times - and I stress very few - in past seasons she has asked a woman to cover up because they're wearing very skimpy clothing. But she hasn't done that in many years. There have been plenty of times this season and in last season where she should have said something to embarrass these women - as she did to this poor guy.

Within a minute, JJ yelled at him to button up his shirt, because "this was not an audition".

Why did he need to button his shirt?

Because Judy was playing the bitch. It's like when she tells people to "uncross their arms" or "stand up straight."

She talks to people as if she was the principal, and they are elementary school students. There's no reason for this.

I think she's WAY out of line.

<<she talks to people as if she was the principal, and they are elementary school students. There's no reason for this.>>

I believe she is trying to intimidate or unsettle them, put a *beep* in their demeanor, get their minds off their prepared lies. It seems to work 90% of the time and she gets more truth from the litigants.
But in this particular case, I believe she was trying to make him pay by robbing him of his dignity on a highly rated television show since her show would be paying the actual judgement and not Bare Chested Guy w the dangling medallion.

reply

I agree with sonomagirl. I think she was just trying to shake him up.

Judy's entire game is intimidation -- just because she can. And, she revels in it!

reply

That's fine if she wants to intimidate him and shake him up a bit, but maybe she can do it to a FEMALE litigant every once in a while? They deserve it as well - including the insults.

I have seen her do it with many female litigants as well as their male counterparts. I remember JJ making a woman leave to go put on a sweater, asking another if she had forgotten her pants, commenting on a red chest, noisy jewelry, piercings and tats on litigants claiming poverty and many many more!

reply

I've seen it too. If they don't have something to cover up she provides them something.

The reason for it is expecting the litigants to respect the court, not necessarily her. Crossing your arms is a sign of aggression in law enforcenent. Slouching or leaning on the table is just plain laziness.

A while back she asked a teen litigant if he thought he was going to the beach, as he was dressed in sandals, shorts and a t-shirt.

She once told a plaintiff to leave the courtroom and "go put on a shawl" as she was showing quite a bit of cleavage.

She's gone very easy on the female litigants the past few seasons. The shawl incident happened quite a few seasons back. Very easy on wmen. Now they show up with their tattooed breasts hanging on the table, and she says nothing to them. Not a word.

However, a man shows up with a couple of shirt buttons undone and she throws a hissy fit. I've said it before - she's very, very sexist.

Your points would be well taken in a "real" court, but Judy's court is not real.

The fact remains that she belittles people for sport, just because she can. And, she enjoys it. I cut the woman no slack on this.

It's all part of her shtick for ratings, as is her yelling and angry demeanor. Someone told her it was cute, and I guess she believed them.

reply

She must at least maintain the illusion the court is real.

True, but she should maintain the illusion 100% - and that includes her behavior towards litigants and her rulings.

Really? Must you come to silly made-up conclusions and call names?

I made a statement about the show. I am not an apologist for Judge Judy. Get off your high horse and stop judging people you don't know, based on a paragraph worth of words. Oh my God.get over yourself.

I am not the one who stooped to silly assumptions about a stranger, and name calling. That was you.

I simply commented on the show, and what it likely expected of Judge Judy and you gave off a high-handed, ridiculous opinion, having nothing to do with MY opining, or my statements. Apparently at least in this instance you cannot abide anyone who does not echo your ideas. I don't need to "get over myself" and you echoing MY statement makes you look even sillier, because you are trying to pick a fight over a message board comment. Again, get over yourself.

Eeeeweww so scared of you.

Oh my God. Now you are throwing out stereotypes!

When I post on a public forum I expect polite responses. I don't expect responses such as being called a JJ apologist, something you made up, as if that is some official or generally accepted phrase.

I can understand why that quote is your favorite phrase.

Now you stoop to supposing you know about the physiology of a stranger and you actually write about your supposition in a public forum? You cannot accept that you are not king of the mountain so you throw out that tripe? Only the basest of persons would write such filth.

That is not clever. It is nasty.

No need to respond with further filth. Ignore is the only place for you. Just nasty.

And, there's no one STRANGER than you, who is making a mountain out of a molehill.

You obviously have to have the last word, so have at it. You begin to bore me.

Oh and, yeah, threatening to put someone on "ignore" is really hurtful. Child.

I'm done with your nonsense. Bye.....

It wasn't necessarily about the open shirt. The guy was 'auditioning'. She even mentioned it a couple of times during the episode.

The smiling guy was clearly seeking his 15 minutes and she gets a kick out of it when she puts them in their place.

reply

It'd serve her right if sometime a litigant did get "discovered" from their showy appearance on her show and get a successful reality show of their own!

Judy is a bully, plain and simple. She gets inordinate joy out of belittling people (makes her feel superior), and I find her to be obnoxious, rather than amusing.

But not nearly enough. I recall maybe twice where she told someone to 'cover up' and gave them a shawl or something - and as I said in my OP, that was years ago. With men, it's constant...always insulting them.

As far as the 'red chest' she says that's how she can tell a person lies. I never heard her comment on noisy jewelry, piercings or tats - starting with the tall blond woman last week with the wide open collar and the scripted tatoo from shoulder to shoulder. She didn't say to her "Button your blouse...all the way up..."

He's not the only one - there are many female litigants who do the same.

They become very animated, show attitude, swing their hair - along with the low cut blouses and tattooed boobs - anything to get the camera's attention. They even cry on cue (like Holly Leftovich suing her baby daddy) to show what a great actress they are on camera.

Be fair Judge Judy - call the females out, as well.

Pvd, I don't think this is a fair jab by any stretch of the imagination. Judge Judy probably doesn't insult women as much with regards to their looks because she is culturally in tune with society: heterosexual women are judged much more strictly and harshly on their looks than are heterosexual men by the media and society at large. It's looked at as ok for a heterosexual man to be a quite a few pounds overweight, but such is not the case for a heterosexual woman.

A lot of times how good a heterosexual man looks is never the determining factor, but it's often the determining factor for a woman's success when it comes to the media and non-media jobs. A lot of women are hired for jobs in the media and non-media jobs based upon youth and looks like that's their only worth. And it's often heterosexual men who are responsible for hiring these women at the expense of much more qualified candidates who are female and male.

Society is harshest on black women most with regards to looks because they differ most from the standard of beauty that the white man in Hollywood has dictated is blue eyes and blonde hair and white skin.

Another important point to consider is the fact that men suffer from cockiness and narcissism much more so than women, so it's more appropriate for Judy to knock them down a peg in the way she does than say a black woman of whom society already tears down for her hair, skin color, attitude, etc. Women suffer more from catfighting, maliciousness, and manipulation than men. So, she goes after women in ways that will address those quality flaws. Judy has even stated on a recent episode, "Men are just messy, but women are manipulative and conniving." So, she gets on women, just in ways that are more appropriate.

Homosexual men receive the same harshness as heterosexual women with regards to looks because as with heterosexual women, we are being judged heavily on looks as it's all guys in our community. Guys tend to care about looks more so than women so homosexual men have a similar road as heterosexual women. And a lot of arrogance, diva, and stuck up behavior comes from younger gay white males because of course they determine themselves as the standard of beauty. So gay white males are probably the worst when it comes to arrogance as they can determine themselves as the standard of beauty unlike str8 white men who have the power to determine what the standard is, but not determine themselves as the standard.

There's only ONE 'attitude' in Judge Judy's courtroom....and that's HERS.

So this smug guy comes strutting in with his shirt unbuttoned like he's at an audition....and you're against JJ putting him in his place?? I'm not. She conducts her court like it should be. And she's very fair to both men and women.

Other TV judges allow their litigants to get-away with too much, and they sometimes make bad decisions. Judge Judy is BY FAR the best at getting to the truth. She hammers people and gets them off of their game. Which helps at getting to the truth.
