Americans love their veterans, and Americans love their dogs. Judge Judy had a case where a performer and his soundman were suing a man for stiffing them for their work on a veterans benefit concert that he was coordinating. I hang out on a military blog, This Ain't Hell, and every week they feature people running scam charities for veterans, dogs or veterans and dogs. If you want to help veterans, donate to a reputable charity, such as Fisher House, which provides housing accommodations for the families of wounded service members. And just so you know, more than likely that "homeless veteran" standing on the freeway off ramp has never been in the military.

When I owned my retail store for 25 years, the amount of phone call solicitations I received from 'veterans charities' were unbelievable. At least four or five a day - especially during the Christmas season. Businesses are always a 'target' for charities anyhow - especially the scam charities for kids, cancer, animals, etc - and I had my share of solicitations, but never ever gave to a phone call, or walk-in which was worse (they never wanted to leave). I had my charities which I was devoted to (and still am) and stuck with those.
