2-1 episode: Glass artist who didn't pay taxes

Today on the show there was a 21 year old woman who looked like ET, claimed she supported herself by selling 'glass art' over the internet, as she worked from home. (Her soon-to-be 30 year old boyfriend was out of work because of injured shoulders). Anyhow, JJ asked her if she got any government assistance - which she first said 'no', then JJ clarified and asked if she got welfare, or food stamps, etc. She then choked up and admitted to 'food stamps'.

JJ then asked her if she made an income in 2015 selling her artwork over the internet, and she acknowledged she did. JJ asked her if she filed a tax return this year for 2015, in which the 21 year old said 'N-n-n-n-no'. JJ asked why not - she made an income? Girl responded "I didn't know I had to with an internet business."

WRONG ANSWER, CUPCAKE.

She should have answered:

"Donald Trump hasn't paid income tax for 20 years, and he's our President! Why should I?"

OR :

"I can't answer that, as I'm being audited. I'm not allowed to talk about my taxes because of the audit."

Her boyfriend spent time in jail for selling meth. Might her 'glass business' be crack pipes????

LOL! Didn't even make the connection!

Or even better:

"Warren Buffet and his business have owed billions in back taxes for years, I figured I didn't have anything to worry about with my crack pipes business...er, um, I mean 'glass art' business. "

Her vocal fry, especially at the beginning of the case, was so pronounced, I was wondering if she was actually trying to be funny but it became pretty clear that it's how she really speaks.

Did anyone notice that her hand was in a cast. I wonder how that happened.

She probably got it caught in a cash register! 

That girl was so emaciated, I immediately turned to my hubby and said "Meth." And what do you know, the boyfriend was a (former?) meth dealer.

Off topic, but I used to make jewelry and sell on Etsy myself. Since it wasn't a viable income (almost certainly made less than $4000 over the entire year span), I doubt that the IRS would even want me to waste their time by filing!

Actually, I believe $750 is still the cut-off for income. If you make $750 or less, you don't need to file taxes. If you go over that, you do. So at $4,000 you still do - though most likely you will get everything refunded to you.

I had a very small part time job in January of 2016, in which I made only $275. I received my W2 form from the company last week. I am now supposed to combine that $250 with my Full Time income for 2016, which my accountant will do.
