Mother suing daughter for electric bill
This was the case on 3-1; the mother was suing the daughter for an electric bill.
The mother was collecting $1300 in partial disability, yet she had a part time job as well part of a 'ticket to work' program. A friend of mine is also on that in MA (she was from MA), and he can't make more than what he earns per month, either - otherwise they will take him off disability. (He's an Uber driver, so he sets his own income).
JJ - more or less - accused the woman of scamming the system at the end, as she said to her at the end, when she said "and you will never earn more than your $1300 a month" at her PT job. The woman acknowledged this is correct.
Well, it's not a scam. As my friend explained to me more than once - his 'agent' assigned to his case told him up front - DO NOT MAKE MORE THAN WHAT YOUR PARTIAL DISABILITY INCOME IS. It's more or less 'the rule', as others have been told the same thing.
What JJ doesn't understand is the fact that these people were in fact diagnosed with a disability - in these cases, partial disability in which they can't go out and work a full 40 hour shift each week. But they do go out and work - and have deductions taken out - so long as they don't go over their allotted time. Why she sees that as 'wrong' or ' a scam' is beyond me. Better than the people collecting a full disability and working 'under the table'.
