I've been wondering the same thing, especially if they die he wouldn't have any close relatives at his wedding. His grandparents were the only close relatives he ever really knew.
Grandpa told Arnold that his father and grandfather had both died at the age of 91. If Grandpa dies at 91, Arnold would have been 19 by then.
