Things I've noticed

I am rewatching the series on TV Land, currently, and actually--when I say rewatching--I had never seen the series in its entirety, in the first place.

A few things I wanted to bring attention to:

1. I was watching a season 5 episode the other day, and (only fellow "Friends" fans will get this) I noticed Hugsy the bedtime penguin pal in the background of the living room! Was this a popular stuffed animal, at the time, or was it a nod to Friends?

These are kind of just general observations:

2. It bugs me how mismatched the curtains are to everything else, in every room. Maybe it's supposed to be a reflection of the lack of "home making " that Marie is always bringing up regarding Debra, but I always feel like Debra isn't as bad as Marie makes her out to be. However, in the kitchen and living room, the curtains clash SO badly with the wallpaper, and then in the bedroom, the curtains match the little table cloths on the night stands, but they clash terribly with the bedspread. It bugs me to no end!

3. When Debra has that psychiatrist lady (who is writing the book) come to the house, one of the first things the woman comments on is how it is great Deb doesn't dress the twins the same--and Debra even acknowledges the comment as if she realizes it's important--but, for several episodes after, I've noticed the twins dressed exactly the same as one another. Like, not even both in jeans and a different color plaid shirt, but both wearing the same exact outfits.

I'm sure more will come to me, but these are just some of the top of my head. I'm only on season 5.

I don't know if that stuffed animal was popular at the time, but I highly doubt that Everybody Loves Raymond would make a nod to a then-current show on a rival network.

That was part of the episode. Debra dressed them differently because she was putting on an act for Dr. Nora. That's why she ended up finding Ray's family more interesting than Debra; Debra wasn't being herself.

I know Debra "wasn't being herself", but I guess what I'm wondering is--even if she always dressed the twins the same, before the Doctor came--why would she go back to dressing the twins the same, after the Doctor left, when it was made clear that she respected the Doctor's opinions on things like that? Why continue doing something that, according to professionals, is bad to do, when raising twins (for whatever the reason may be)? I just found it odd.

It's like, "Okay, now that the Doctor left, who cares if my twins have some kind of psychological damage!" (Or whatever kind of damage that dressing twins the same is meant to cause.)

Just my two cents.

Ha and I am now watching the episode "Tissues", and Ray just called Debra out on the kitchen curtains!

First thing I noticed when watching the show. Stripes, patterns, flowers, ugh. Also toys everywhere. However I preferred Debra's decor more than Marie's 😏.
