In that Thanksgiving episode

where they all went to Amy's parents, what are your thoughts on Amy's Mother putting that bird out of it's misery? That bird didn't even look all that hurt. I think they said they did that to every bird that hits the house. I don't agree with the bird thing. On another note, that was a funny episode.

Why do birds keep flying into their house?

reply

Amy's mother was right in that situation. The bird was injured and probably wasn't going to survive so they did what needed to be done.

reply

It's one of the difficult but merciful things that you do for wounded animals. You take them out of their misery.

I guess Frank, Marie, and Robert would've let Ol' Yeller suffer with the rabies.

reply

How is twisting a defenseless birds neck, killing it instantly, being merciful??? I would rather take care of it, nurse the bird back to full health, then watch it fly out of my hands.

Most people would try to save it or at least, just leave it be. The humor was in the contrast of her killing the poor thing without flinching with her sweet voice and mild-mannered disposition.

reply

To be honest I can't recall if i have seen that episode, what season is it from and the name of the episode is it

reply

The Bird from Season 8.

Of course Pat was right to put the bird out of its misery, but it was just too much for me on a comedy. Personally, I see too many stories of animals suffering. I realize this was not a case of cruelty that lead to the injury, but I see no humor in an animal's suffering and death. Too sensitive? Most likely I am!

reply

It's not like they showed the scene of her killing the bird.

The bigger point of that episode was the they were all bent out of shape over the killing of that bird yet they couldn't wait to dive in and eat another dead bird.

reply

I didn't catch that Ken. Good point

reply

This is one of my favorite episodes. Amy's mom cracks me with how she says she killed the bird. Her sweet voice and facial expressions are priceless. Then the shocked reaction of Ray's family. It's so funny. Then Amy's dad points out how they seem to value the life of an animal more than the life of a human. He's make a good point that is very true with many people.

reply

nothing wrong with being more sympathetic towards animals rather than humans. some people are more wired that way. people just unfortunately tend to think there is something "wrong" with these individuals.

reply

It was the right thing to do.
