This was the episode where Debra winds up in prison for putting the key in the ignition of her car, and taking a nap in her car after she's had too much champagne at Amy's shower after having a fight with Marie. I wonder if the writers were using this episode, where we see Debra behind bars, as a metaphor for her life with the Barones.

I always assumed it was supposed to be irony (Debra ending up in jail despite the rest of the Barones being worse), but I like your take on it better!

"Oh my God, she finally killed Ma!" Christ I hated this episode. Debra should have broken a bottle of wine over Ray's head for having the audacity to continue the idea that she "had a drinking problem" just so he didn't have to take any of the blame for what had happened to her. And sadly, Marie really had Debra over a barrel at the end. That really pissed me off. I hate this episode.
While Marie could be pretty mean to Marie, Debra's not exactly an angel herself. I see a lot of posts on here demonizing Ray, and acting like Debra's an angel.
What about the way she acted about Robert's relationships? She was horrible in Young Girl. She only wanted Robert to marry Amy because they were going to mention her in their wedding toast. She gets on Ray about how he never tells her he loves her, and then when he does, she laughs at him. She gets the stone in her wedding ring replaced because the one he gave her wasn't good enough. She promises Ray she'll be ready on time because she knows how important the night is to him, but her vanity caused her to be late. She gets upset with Marie when Marie thinks Debra still has her canister. Marie apologizes for hurting her feelings, and then it turns out that Debra had it all along, and refuses to give it back, not caring how much it meant to Marie, and forces Ray to go along with her. There are plenty others, but that's just a select few.
You are right about that, but since Debra has in laws that just invites themselves over to there house whenever they want, with very rarely to never making a telephone call to be sure it would be a good time to come over, you would think that she would have a right to complain.
Yes, but Debra being mean isn't only because of Frank and Marie. There are lots of times where she's just downright nasty, and it has nothing to do with Frank and Marie. Bad Moon Rising, Boob Job, Young Girl, etc.
BMR she had PMS. But being a sitcom, it was exaggerated for comedy. Ray even says in the episode that she wasn't Debra then. She was the woman who shows up once a month to rip into him like a monkey on a cupcake.
I agree about Boob Job. I don't think she was nasty. But I think, like Ray said, she went through the moon and back just to get Ray to say he likes big breasts so she could argue with him about it just because she's salty that her boobs aren't big.
I also agree about Young Girl.
Debra had her moments like all the characters. I never liked Ray, but overall, all of the characters, except Amy are annoying past season 4. When I rewatch some episodes of the show, I sometimes get more annoyed with Robert than I do Marie.
__________ If you're gonna pretend to cut her hair, at least put some scissors in your hand!
I totally agree that the first four seasons are the best. 2,3 and 4 in my opinion are the best, and the ones I watch the most. I can't even watch Boob Job though...what she did was nothing less than entrapment, and was so manipulative. "You know when you should worry, is when I say I don't like those things!" Love that line!
No doubt Debra had her horrible moments, too. You are so right she was awful in some episodes: Lateness, The Canister, Super Bowl, Surprise Party and Bad Moon Rising.
LOL, the way you worded that post made it sound as if Debra did all of that in the same episode. XD
Getting back to your point, though, it's only andrereichenbacher that seems to demonize Ray on a regular basis. I definitely agree that Debra is a very flawed person, but that's part of the character dynamic in order for the comedy to work.
Deborah's nastiness was majorly exaggerated sometimes, and Mari was over the top awful in Snow Day, which I refuse to watch. But she humbled herself in the shower ep, so I was ok with it overall.
I agree she was. I don't think I would take Marie's offer because for one thing Marie would hold it over Debra for ever! "Do you remember the time when I had to ferry your children around " kind of thing. Besides Debra was very involved in the school and lots of support from there with car pools etc. trouble is I suppose the " drinking " problem would be outed.
