I just looked up Stacy Dash's bio Holy cow, she was born in 1966 which means she was 30 when the show started. How can a 30 year old actress portray a teenager and get away with it. I always thought she was sexy but to think that she is 40 today makes me feel a lot older.

And Gabrielle Union played a sophomore in 10 Things I Hate About You (Bianca's friend) and she was twenty-seven at the time. She's almost ten years older than Julia Stiles and her character was supposed to be two years younger.

Most teen movies and tv shows have characters that are well into their twenties and up. Since tv and movies are written by people in their 30s and up, they need people who look old enough to at least match the dialogue (which would be much different from real teenagers).

shareYep, in fact the whole cast of Grease were in their thirties playing teenagers (Stockard Channing who played Rizzo was 36). The only person close to that age was Dinah Manoff who played Marty. I think she was 19.
