Why does anyone talk about this show

Why isnt this talked about more? It has to be one of the best comedy ever on TV and its better than Big Bang Theory, or Two and a Half Men but this like a LOT of shows in the 90s are almost forgotten. I see teens today talk about Friends and lots of people still like Siendfield but never hear about this (or Newsradio) its sad.

IMO, it's directly related to syndication. Friends, Seinfeld, Roseanne, & Fresh Prince are all shown on several different channels throughout the day, so it's easy for them to maintain a certain amount of relevance.

3rd Rock & NewsRadio are simply less accessible. I think the last time I saw 3rd Rock on TV was when I accidentally turned on the Reelz channel. Who watches Reelz? Who even has Reelz? Unfortunately, they've since replaced 3rd Rock with Coach.

Ultimately, the problem is that the 80s/90s just had way too many awesome sitcoms. But I can't really figure out why some get SO MUCH airtime and others don't get any ... Thank goodness for YouTube.

I was thinking the EXACT SAME THING before I came here just now. How underrated it is and how hard it made me laugh. I only caught the syndicated episodes because I wasn't allowed to watch TV past 8 on weeknights back then (I was like, 13) and they aired the repeats at 7. I don't know how the show ended, but I have nothing but good memories.

And I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING ABOUT NEWSRADIO. Like, I ADORE that show and it was equally as hilarious, but nobody knows about it or talks about it. These shows seriously need more exposure. Some shows from the 90s that are being syndicated tick me off because they're just so unfunny and they're taking up spots that could be used for classics like these two. Like, can That 70s Show please take a syndication hiatus and make room for one of these? Or will 70s Show always be around because it appeals to the lowest common denominator?

I was thinking the same thing when I saw a meme come up about the show. It was awesome back in the day, and even now still remains relevant and extremely funny and entertaining!

I have the DVD's packed away, which I am going to get out again now I had been reminded of the show. It was truly one of the last great sitcoms that ever aired.

Its absolutely about syndication. Its just a fact that people like shows they are most familiar with. Big Bang theory and How I met Your Mother is on everywhere right now and that's partly why they are talked about all the time. Once they move on to a new show, you wont hear about them at all.

This was one of the greats. I even liked the ending (and I rarely like series finales).

3rd Rock is running in syndication now. My local CW station airs it.

yeh i agree with other posters in that i rarely ever had seen reruns of 3rd rock, and only ever remember seeing it on tv while new episodes were still airing.

Mind you i havent watched a whole lot of tv (on cable i mean, i watch online lol) for a few years now, but the show has been finished for 10 years now.

It was an excellent show and i think its just one of those shows that execs were unsure would be more successful than other shows that were shown.

This was an age where simpsons/seinfeld/fresh-prince among many other golden/popular shows that were too popular to not show. Spin city is another excellent show i never see reruns of, there were just way too many sitcoms back in the 90s and early 2000s for all of them to get the recognition they deserve.

It may get more attention if rumors are right (coming to Netflix in mid-March).

I only regained an interest in it through Netflix. I wish they would show Taxi. It is a classic show that doesn't run in syndication anymore.

First off it is an intelligent show!!

You literally have to be genius to get ALL of the jokes. But, there are so many layers that you don't 'have' to be a genius to get them all to still enjoy it. That's the level of genius in the writing, acting, and comedic timing.

I showed this to my mother who basically likes, old shows, musicals, B&W movies, 'clean' comedies, would never be interested in a National Lampoon type raunchy humor, but, she loved this. However, just like, she LOVES M*A*S*H, she never liked the Movie of it because it was too raunchy, but the M*A*S*H series was brilliant.

I think that most executives incorrectly think that only simplistic 'dumb' shows are what are popular because people are generally 'dumb' too. The evidence doesn't show that. The longest running shows are almost always smart, and require a quick wit. They think that to capture the success of a brilliant show featuring someone who spouts Quantum theory you just have sci-ency sounding stuff and mention sci-fi movies and say the word 'nerd' a bunch of times. BING!! winning formula!

It's not that we are retards, or want mindless entertainment. It's just that if the only thing on is something not too bright well,we will just have to make do until our favorite comes on.

I find it interesting how they seem to have a belief nowadays that you will get board if you show too much detail in a movie. But, think of movies that are hits, like The Hunt For Red October. Not a super spy with exploding cars and gadgets, and dumb blondes or sleazy women. Not that that type doesn't have it's place. But it was very detailed and had intelligent plot line sometimes hard to follow everything, not one of those you can do something else and just listen to it in the background.
