Asteroid 163899, also known as 2003 SD220, is a potentially hazardous asteroid about 1.5 miles across and it is expected to pass perilously close to Earth on December 24, Christmas Eve, according to NASA astronomers.
Bah. Not that "perilously." It will not be causing any earthquakes as others have reported. There's not even anything that remotely suggests an asteroid of that size could cause earthquakes, unless it makes impact.
Just for a bit of perspective, in 2014, there were about a dozen similar objects (that we know of) that came more than 10 times closer.
