I swear I saw a version of the theme/credits intro that showed Dick and Mary dancing with the planets in the background. Could this have been made specially for that dance episode and not released for syndication?

No, that wasn't it. It was the usual intro with the planets and the credits and theme song, but Dick and Mary were superimposed on there dancing.
