They need to come back and...
Visit earth for at least once for 44mins!!!
shareThat would so kick ass. I have all 6 seasons and watch em straight through every 6 months or so; am on S05E04 again at the moment. This show just kicks so much ass. They definitely need to do a reunion show, especially before John Lithgow dies. \m/
sharei just finished watching the whole series. don`t you get sad at the final episode? it always gets me. so sad to see them leave 😢
shareIt is sad. I thought they were going to stay on earth, they seemed to enjoy it so much.
shareI just rewatched the series and just finished the finale today and I forgot how sad the ending was. I was really hoping they would have gotten to stay on earth.
shareI'd be up for it if the "Solomons" are!
AFAIK, the principal cast members are still around. Unfortunately, recurring guest-stars/semi-regulars Ileen Getz (Dr. Judith Draper) and the late Jan Hooks (Vicki Dubcek) are no longer with us.
It would take some good writing to explain the Solomons' return, and unfortunately this is the Achilles' Heel for most reunion/revival TV shows.
But it could be done, and I can think of an obvious plot point: Dick coming back for Mary-- depending on the setup, they could end up leaving again with Mary, or figure out some other way to keep Dick and Mary together.
No offense to people who are sensitive to "ageism", but to me the biggest challenge is reproducing the original chemistry with cast members who've aged considerably since the original series.
Here, it's not so much actors who are now elderly-- Elmarie Wendel is 83, and I don't know if she's still acting, but if she's reasonably healthy I could see her still pulling off her classic Mrs. Dubcek.
It's the younger original cast members who present the challenge. Tommy could still be living with the present-day Solomons, I guess, the way more adult millenials now continue living with their parents.
It would be trickier to have Nina remain as a lowly university secretary; OTOH, they'd need to avoid a common pitfall of "reunion" writing: transforming a "lowly" character into a high-status version, e.g. Nina being Dean of Pendleton U.
And then there are Dick's students, who are my all-time favorite "secondary" cast group-- perhaps tied with psychologist Bob Hartley's group in "The Bob Newhart Show". They would have to figure out a way to keep them together, and even by Pendleton standards they're all too old to still be undergraduates-- breaking them up and having the actors appear as individual cameos would be disappointing.
So let's get some really good writers and greenlight this thing! 😉
