Dawn's rude brother, why I hate nerds.

He is the perfect example of how these pompous eggheads really are and why I despise them. After all, the evil corporations are ran by them.
Never confuse a nerd with an outcast, the first are conceited and uniform, the second are rebels and think outside the box. I belong to the second group, proudly, and so does Dawn.

Yes he was a slap-able haughty jerk. What annoyed me most about him however was that everything he did was a long-game scheme: Everything he did was not for enjoyment/recreation, mind expansion or the like, but to impress others. Who ever heard of someone wanting to be in a rock band "so I can get into a good school". Tool.

he is a jerk, but don't associate all nerds with being jerks.

He probably wasn't always that way. He actually had a GF, then she dumped him after summer, so how bad could he have been really.

The brother probably did become a rude pompous jerk to those around him because it was a way to create a wall around him to protect himself.

Remember he did give advice to Dawn about how bullying is in Junior High and then in High School, and that girl who Steve finger *beep* knew he was "king of the nerds". So he probably went through a similar thing what Dawn went through.

Then at some point he said *beep* it! He was going to do the most with what he had and became insanely driven to focus on Comp Sci and getting into college.

I liked that scene of him talking to her when she asks if the later grades are better. It showed a different dynamic to their relationship. Having a younger sister myself, I'm always intrigued with brother/sister relationships in movies, as I often see things I relate to.

yeah some nerdy kids are rude and arrogant. they always say how they are misunderstood and how the popular kids pick on them, but try to be nice to one of them.....

Now, Like you said, I am not talking about outcasts, or loners, I am not talking about shy people or quite people, I am not talking about people that love to read or intellectuals.

I am talking about people like the brother. People that have nerdy interests and they are not popular and they don't fit in... BUT you try to talk to them and they are even more rude than the popular people. And in their circle of friends they are bossy too.
when I got to high school this baffled me. the jocks would just ignore you.

Now as an adult, you see the same thing in comic books, gaming stores, cons, etc. so yeah I totally agree, some of them are just awful
right....

They are like that because they've been hurt so much they can't trust anyone. When you try to be nice to them they think you're just setting them up for a let-down.

Some of them break out and become more trusting again and become quite liked by others who come to see their fun side.
I should know. I was like Dawn, then I became her brother Then I became open and liked.

reply

No, it's because they feel superior to everyone else because they're so "intellectual." No one else is like them. No one can be like them because they're so damn "special" and unique.
They may get picked on, but that doesn't mean they can't be insufferable regardless.
