Had to watch with subtitles could not.....

understand one word Benico was saying. The subtitles did make it alot easier to follow the movie though.

I agree with you totally. Unfortunately for me, my subtitles were not working and I had to resort to lip reading.

You weren't supposed to understand what he was saying. Del Toro played it this way deliberately, with the full support of the director.

Yep I rember seeing that in the dvd extras. I wanted to understand what he was saying though so thats why I used the subtitles.
Interrogation Cop: What are you saying?

Fenster: I said he'll flip you.

Interrogation Cop: He'll what?

Fenster: Flip you. Flip ya for real.

I was actually just discussing this with someone as I'm so surprised SO MANY people can't understand what he's saying. I'll admit sometimes I have a hard time hearing things but surprisingly people talking in very low tones or mumbling are incredibly easy for me to understand. Not sure if it's a frequency thing or if it's because my dad is a big mumbler, as am I at times, but I could definitely get 98% of what he was saying(I want to say 100%, but I'll leave a margin of error so I don't make myself a liar!).

I'm glad most have subtitles to fall back on though because his lines are hilarious and definitely bring a nice tone to his character!

Haha I basically watch every English movie with English subtitles (I'm Dutch) although in real life I can almost always perfectly understand both American-English and British-English speakers! =P
I don't know what it is with movies... I think it's a combination of the dialogue almost in every movie being put in at relatively very low volume as opposed to the sound-effects and such, distracting sounds, music and shot -changes and -direction in the film during dialogue and alot of actors often prenounciating poorly in order to come across as "authenthic" and "realistic" which mostly doesn't leed to such an effect at all in my opinion. As an amateur stage-actor this often buggs the hell out of me and I am starting to believe that this is often only much worst with method-actors... isn't that Del Toro guy a method actor?
I don't really understand what was all that special about Spacey's acting in this film but at least he spoke clearly.
That Benico character had some nice entertaining moments but overall I was kinda glad that he got killed quite early on in the film, I literally thought to myself: I understand why they choose to get rid of that guy! xP
