Am I the only one who thinks the Subs are AWFUL!!!!!!!

It just can`t be me ?

From the awful original Japanese soundtrack ''Hooray , hooray for the street fighter '' (((***CRINGE***))) and that other awful song that was on while Vega and chun li were fighting ( Suck . that KMFDM song shall always be the right song for that scene ) all of the music was awful .

As for the subs :

Oh , there was some cringe moments like : fei long vs Ruy : I liked '' NO ! WE`RE NOT DONE YET ! YOU HAVEN`T SEEN ANYTHING ! GET READY ! better then '' THIS FIGHT ISN`T OVER YET ! YOU HAVE TO SHOWN ME YOUR SECRET MOVE ! ( cheesy )
theres a couple other cheesy lines . ( I`ll put em down later )

The Dub shall always be the best...I really hated the subs .

Personally I thought the Japanese music was appropriate for the Chun-Li/Vega fight. American audiences have this narrow-minded view that all fight scenes must have this wrestling-esque "hard rock" theme, but really... that fight was good because of the music.

And don't even try to tell me that the music during the Ken and Ryu vs. Bison fight was bad.

The lines weren't that corny. And anyway, compare them to how the U.S. dubs have lines like "We Japanese have to stick together... CUZ WE'RE BROTHERS! Hahahah!" or "Have you ever felt the fighting spirit of another?"

One dub line I always hated though, was when M. Bison told Ken and Ryu: "I'll fight you on your own level!" This implied to me that Bison only died because he held back his full power. In the Japanese version, he says "I'll fight you as a martial artist!" which can be interpreted any number of ways.

No , it not always about "hard rock" themes...it`s about what fits for the scene , and the music they chose sounded like waiting room dentist music ( the scene was a really really intense, hardcore fight...which means you need really intense, hardcore music to fit it )

The first half was good...that was until the awful vocals came in ( why not fight to Hall & Oates ''I can`t go for That''...Jesus Christ , pepole )

LOL!!!!!!! Alright , I`ll give you ,"We Japanese have to stick together... CUZ WE'RE BROTHERS! Hahahah!" that was a cringe line but...I can`t give you Dhalsim`s line ( I thought that was pretty cool )

WHAT!?!?!?!!?!?!? Thats one of the Greatest quotes in the whole entire movie . The reason why that line is in the movie was to show how much of an egotistical maniac he was that he would actually try to lower his fighting abilities in a life or death situation just to show off ( and yes , the Japanese line is cool too, but...I just think the dub line taps more into the insanity of Bison . )

Okay it depends on what's your mood. The theme for in the Balrog(Vega)/Chun-Li in Japan does match because it symbolizes her struggle. In the English version, the rock music loses the theme of her struggle but makes up for the heat of the fight.

The subtitled version for Manga is screwed up. If you want the a more closer and better translation you have to buy the Region 2 version. Talk to some hardcore Japanese elitists elsewhere, they will tell you that Manga Americanized the subtitles. Many original fans felt cheated by the bad translation so you are not the only one in some sense.

Just move on because I don't like the English version period but I'm not writing a novel about it, am I?

@grandpopoplock: I completely agree with you about that subs. "show me your secret move!" is just so ridiculous! and "have you ever felt the fighting spirit of another" actually gives me chills everytime, it's cool!
but if it is as blackheart981 said, it's also manga's fault. however, in my opinion this "secret move" thing DOES sound pretty japanese... whatever.

Let me check my version and see what it says for that "secret move" scene.

Here are the subtitles for the Fei Long scene on the version I created (the subtitles were created by Karyuudo Fansubs):

Fei Long: You fight pretty well. Allow me to be your next challenger. You look like a decent martial artist. What's your name?

Ryu: My name is Ryu. I'm just another Japanese tourist traveling around. I'm not looking for a fight.

Fei Long: Not yet! It's not over yet! Let me show you what I've been keeping in reserve. Get ready!

Shien-Kyaku!
(Igniting Fire Legs!)

Ryu: Tatsumaki-Senpuu-Kyaku!
(Tornado Whirlwind Legs!)

I thought the "fighting spirit of another" line was cool. And that E-Honda "Japanese guys stick together because we're brothers" I never cringed at. I thought it was pretty funny actually (as in, laughing with the movie, not at it). Shows E-Honda is a likeable, jokey kinda guy.

So,what your trying to say, blackheart981 , is : it doesn`t really matter what the song sounds like ( meaning : instrumentals ) just as long as there are some metaphorical lyrics that some how fit with the characters life ( I wonder if you would be saying the same thing if the lyrics were mixed in with carnival instrumentals ? )

All I`m saying is : the music they chose, was extremely soft...it just didn`t fit ( look if you want to keep in the lyrics , at least try to mix it with some instrumentals that have a little * ummf * in it...just a little bit )

Yeah...that does show E-Honda is a likeable, jokey kinda guy...it`s still a cheesy line though .

It didn't fit in your opinion. It clearly shows two types of music/culture when you watch the film in it's respective version. The Japanese people are into pop-techno music/soft scores while the English have their western interpretation. I bet ya most people in Japan who seen the English version thought the KMFDM and all that rock music sucked, I thought it did too but that's my opinion.

Well I'm sorry if you don't look at the mood/musical perspective but I'm one of those who do and in some sense, all of you do. Yeah, depending on the movie, I probably would say the same if the music was mixed with carnival instruments.

you can't just say that all the KMFDM-fans don't look at the mood/musical aspects!! that would be a little ignorant. for me, KMFDM DID of course create a specific type of mood - an aggressive one for an aggressive fight. yeah, the fight wasn't calm and sad like the mood in the Japanese score, it was tough and bloody, like a fight to death normally is.
But whatever.

I highly doubt that . Yes, theres a difference in music taste over there...but not by that much. It would be pretty much divided like it is over here ( They could of at least used Trip-Hop music for that scene...that can be pretty down-tempo at times . ) The reason why I loved the music in the Street Fighter 2 dub is : they got away from your typical Anime J-pop bulls hit : About 96 % of Japanese anime Creators think you need some bulls hit Pop Japanese Version of Christina Aguilera singing in the anime ( and it never goes with the it ) they really need to get out of that habbit...everything can`t be *POP* . Now...there are some animes that have gotten away from that sound like , Ghost in The Shell , Akira , Cowboy Bebop , Samurai Champloo ETC All of thoes animes not only are highly critically acclaimed for their unique in depth story lines, and amazing fight scenes , their also highly critically acclaimed for their music . Why ?Cause they got away from that typical J-pop sound , and created something that was beyond better then that ( a masterpice )I don`t hear anybody talking about the old Street Fighter 2 soundtrack except for the pepole on these boards ( I wonder why ? )

I hope I`m not sounding like some Metal-head ( I like metal but...Not like that ) I`m more into Electronica music like , APHEX TWIN , THE PRODIGY , DJ SHADOW,BOARDS OF CANADA,MASSIVE ATTACK, AMON TOBIN ( Amon Tobin Scored Splinter Cell Chaos Theory...it`s f uckin amazing ) If that scene had a song from one of thoes musicians...it would of been (((***BEYOND***))) better then that KMFDM song ( their only real good song that they ever did )....I just really hated what the original ( no...I can`t say ''original''...I`ll just say music ) that they used in the old Japanese version...I really hated it . ( You hear one pop song...you`ve heard em all )

I agree with you GrandPopPoplock. That music can work for SOME anime, but it just doesn't work with Street Fighter. I can't wait until everyone hears my combo Japanese voice/ English music track. Finishing it up as we speak.

It's done, I think. As best as it can be. It was really tough removing the Japanese music during the final battle scene. I ended up lowering the volume on the voices so you couldn't make out the singing as much. That's the best I could come up with. Trying to compile the DVD right now, but it's giving me some trouble.

I prefer the JPN version but that line Honda gave in dub when he saw Bison was funny

Actually Ryu's attack wasnt really a Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku because he used both legs in the attack. Also, in the english dub, the voice actor called out, "Tatsumaki Shopuu!". Ken did the same attack to Bison at the end of the movie.

The only true Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku performed was when Ryu was fighting Sagat in the very beginning of the movie.
