Where did they get the alien DNA from?

I get the impression they didn't actually get the DNA from space but the chemical code to create it...

Would that be correct?

So I wonder what this creaures natural form is had they not put human DNA in with the alien DNA?

I don't remember the film well enough to answer the first question but for the second, I'm guessing the alien form Sil turned into occasionally and at the end was the 'natural form,' just as she looked completely human otherwise.

yeah thanks....... I think you might be right.

I got the impression the DNA was made by mixing the right chemicals according to the signal the aliens sent.

Yeah, that must be it. But, the real question to ask is what would make a small cabal of scientists decide to actually create the DNA? I'm also thinking, how many real-life scientific laboratories are tinkering around with human genetics like this?

True....But I don't think playing with human DNA will get you anything other then some kind of human offshoot. You won't likely get a strange mutant thing.

My response:

That's exactly my point, whatever is created has feelings and motivations that might pose a danger for itself or the larger human population. Those scientists in that movie "Species" were so irresponsible that it was actually comical. What a silly sci-fi movie, it's sure to go down in entertainment history with Edward D. Wood, Jr's "Plan 9 from Outer Space". Mark my words!

To be fair, the scientists did try 'shutting the project down,' i.e. gassing Sil when her growth spurts freaked them out. They still should have put a little bit more of their budget into basic security, admittedly.

@filmbuff, you are right. They were silly. Didn't they even think about the consequences of creating such a creature. Or putting something on Earth that's never been or supposed to be on Earth? This isn't some afternoon craft project.

Although one does wonder what else they were doing on the side, besides tinkering with alien dna.
