Viggo Mortensen's Devil Vs Robert De Niro's Devil

which one is a cooler devil

Viggo - The Prophecy
Robert - Angel Heart

reply

DeNiro. Hand's down. He plays it with more panache and it fits the movie very well. This is not to say Mortenson did a bad job, just as written it's not as interesting as DeNiro's role in Angel Heart.

reply

i have to disagree there, viggo just seemed more like the devil,he even made lion like sounds, hes also handsome which lucifer is suppose to be,and he was far more intemidating

In my opinion:

Robert DeNiro was by far the most sinister portrayal of the Devil.

Viggo Mortensen was the scariest, most ethereal portrayal of the Devil.

Gabriel Byrne (my personal favorite) was the sexiest, most charasmatic portrayal of the Devil.

I haven't seen Constantine yet.

I had forgotten about Jamey Sheridan! Well spotted, sinclair670-1.
Jamey was the creepiest, maybe because he looked the most innocent...lol....

Al Pacino?

reply

you know I'm a Pacino fan and I have yet to see Devil's Advocate. I feel somewhat ashamed.

reply

For shame, urzas! lol Pacino plays a good devil especially the way that movie is set up. Constantine's devil was ok. I was actually more intrigued with Gabriel in that movie.

Oh you have to! Especially when he chews the scenery at the end. His speech is scary as hell because it sounds so damned true....think lawyers.

reply

Ethereal? Are you sure you're using that word right?

reply

It doesn't have to mean only 'heavenly'. It means anything that is or appears otherworldly, spiritual.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

reply

John Glover in Brimstone(the series). The devil with an odd sense of humor.

Two wrongs don't make a left hand turn.

reply

I'm with King of Bob - John Glover's devil in the TV series Brimstone wins hands down. What I liked about him was he was seductive and charming but utterly ruthless. Nobody would be tempted by a scary devil - but a charming seductive one...

reply

Lucifer is supposed to look young, Viggo, as cool as he was as Lucifer does not look young. How do you know what the devil is like? When I think of the devil I don't think intimidating, it's hard to con people when they're too afraid to look at or talk to you.

Two wrongs don't make a left hand turn.

reply

Between those two I'd say Mortensen, and Gabriel Byrne in End of days should get second place.

reply

Viggo Mortensen gives the best portrayl of the Devil between these two.

reply

I'm sorry, but as much as I liked Mortenson's devil, the best devil on screen - ever - was Rosalinda Celentano in The Passion of the Christ - hands down the creepiest and most convincing fallen angel I've ever seen on screen.

reply

no way man, that passion devil was no where as good as Viggo Mortensen,Viggo was awesome with his jesus like appearance

reply

Viggo

Yo. She bitch. Let's go.-Ash:Army of Darkness

reply

I pretty much cant stand Viggo.... But I have to admit his Satan was great.....

We can talk or I can fill your mouth with your mother's feces...... awesome!!!

Crusades... Now!!!!

reply

Obviously different movies look for different styles in their devils. But I was really taken aback by Viggo's take. There's just something about his "I love you I love you more than Jesus" with blood running down his chin that strikes me as insanely creepy and desperate and dismissive all that the same time.

reply

I gotta say.......De Niro!He just looks more the part.Every time he showed up to bedevil Mickey Rourke he looks creepier.

Viggo was awesome also.At that time he was the best sine De Niro.He has some great lines in the Prophecy.

However. What about Peter Stormare's preformance from Constintine?I was pretty much bored through that movie until he showed up.

Pacino was great. He went over the top with it.And it worked.

Gabriel Bryne was a sauve,fast-talking satan.

Nicholson as cool as he is seems dated when I look back at the witches of eastwick.

Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead.

reply

Viggo was the ONLY devil that I would want to have sex with. ;)

reply

i think de niro has the upper hand with his brilliantly sinister performance. but viggo is amazing as well and defintely on no. 2 with his interpretation. but one should not forget that both scripts sketched different characters for lucifer which demanded different performances.
and al pacino's devil is really crap, ubelievable that this guy once delivered outstanding performances like in the first two godfather parts.

reply

I agree with you about Al Pacino's satan. He overacted and was just annoying. Normally I really like him though.
Viggo is the best satan, very scary.
I also though Jeff Goldblum was really good in that movie Mr Frost. I'm pretty sure he's supposed to be the devil in that movie

reply

I second that! Definately the sexiest devil I have seen in a long time. And so charismatic...I could watch that scene between him and Katherine a thousand times (with the light playing on his face so beautifully). He looked gorgeous!

reply

some of the Best lines ever uttered by a "devil" character were spoken by Viggo in "The Prophecy"

" Catherine: are you an angel?
Lucifer: I was THE angel.... loved first above all others"

" little Tommy Dagget, How I used to love hearing your little prayers at night. and then you JUMP into bed, afraid i was under there.................................................AND I WAS!!!!"

"Y'see, I'm not here to help you and the little bitch because I love you or because I care for you, but because two hells is one hell too many, and I can't have that."

::as he skulks back into the Shadows:: "Leave the Light on, Thomas...."

best on screen devil

I am Providence -- H.P. Lovecraft

reply

Tie.

reply

Viggo. He's just more of a tragic, charismatic figure. De Niro, Pacino, so over the top. Pacino, that was just an older tony manero/scarface.

Condoms cause sex like walls invite BATTERING RAMS

reply

One really can't judge Deniro's devil by his acting throughout Angel Heart. It's really the ending of the movie that cinches it for those of us who think he made the most impressive satan.

Come on folks!

Imagine if at the end of the Prophecy, Lucifer's eyes turned light red like Deniro's and he pointed at Gabriel with a taloned hand shaped like a gun and hissed...

"Your war is jealousy. That makes it evil. That's MINE".

Come on people. You'd be feeling sorry for GABRIEL at that point.

Viggo was good, but he wasnt THAT good.
