Unintentional Hilarious Parts.

Just to keep the dead-thread weirdly alive (kinda apropos for a The Prophecy board, yes?), I'll contribute that a lot of stuff about the school and the teacher (Katherine?) made me laugh, and I do not think it was intended.

She's in class and realizes Mary's missing, so she just walks out on all the other kids.

She finds Mary in the abandoned, potentially-dangerous upper story and finds her with a transient (well, as far as Katherine knows). The transient is weird, creepy, and knows names he shouldn't. The teacher goes, "You should leave," and she doesn't look worried, angry, creeped out - nothing. She's just kind of annoyed.

Then the teacher goes back downstairs and Mary pops up, "I hid". Hilarious. All of that is laughable.

They explained why all the different ages were in the same school, but in the same class at the same time?

The teacher only seems to wear midriff-revealing outfits to her class.

She goes to Mary's house and looks after her. I guess this was after school, but it's shot like the teacher is just wandering around in the middle of the school day.

The students arrive at school before she does. How? Why?

They're with another creepy, weird dude, and the teacher thinks nothing of that - despite the recent nastiness with a now-incredibly sick Mary.

On and on with this stuff.

Weirdly, a lot of the stuff mentioned by the posts from times-gone-by are clearly intentionally funny stuff. The trumpet, the beer sign in the morgue, Gabriel saying, "Hi" or the diner scene... it's all supposed to be funny.

I liked the movie overall, but the teacher stuff didn't play like they wanted it to (I think, anyway). It's got some cool supernatural stuff and some great, otherworldly performances by Walken and Mortensen. Oh, it also loses some points for some, "Did you research this at all?" Bible quotes and "facts". The verse Thomas quotes isn't from the Bible; Paul didn't even write a Gospel. Later he says that God always sends angels to kill people. Mm...no?

The writer/director also plays fast-and-loose with what jobs the cops seem to be doing. Again, with the school, the teacher phones about a guy living in the upstairs and being creepy with a 12-year old student and they basically go, "We're kinda busy...maybe tomorrow?" The coroner/morgue guy is bringing Thomas reports on the book. They're a small town sheriff's department, maybe? But then how are they getting such CSI levels of readings on the book?
