Did Lucifer fear Gabriel?
If he was so worried about Gabriel getting the soul why didn't he just stop him himself? Instead he gives tips on how to defeat him and then only shows up once Gabriel is crippled by the humans.

shareMuch like God himself, I don't think Lucifer is actually allowed to physically get into the fight and get involved. He can only come to take him away at the end.
Actually happens in a lot of movies, not all of them, but a good bit...that the two big dogs on each end just don't or "can't" get directly involved on the ground level. Heck, Lucifer has to have Thomas and the woman say they want to go with him at the end, he can't just kill them and take them apparently.

It wasn't a matter of fear, it was more it wasn't his fight. He stopped Thomas, because he wanted to claim Gabriel. I think it was best explained in Constantine (don't judge me) where it was more a game of influence. Lucifer tries to appeal to them that he loves them more than God, he helps them, etc... But his beef with Gabriel was explained, If Gabriel wins it would be hell on earth, and that is his domain.
by the way... love the Danger Mouse quote.
Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone got one, and I don't want yours.
I don't think Lucifer is anywhere near as powerful as Gabriel in this movie and judging by the start of the sequel and the fact we never see him again it is obvious who ultimately came out on top. Michael, on the other hand appeared to be more powerful than both of them since he stripped Gabriel of his powers at the end of the second film but didn't really get involved or try to stop Gabriel himself.
