shareI disagree. Christopher Walken has an undeniable presence on screen. He showcased a great range from acting pretty sinister, to almost innocent little moments. Viggo appeared for 10 minutes, had a couple of cool speeches but that was it really. Good performance but not a Walken beater.

I thought both actors gave kick ass performances.
Of course I love both of them in just about everything they have done. Hell they could make of movie of themselves reading the phone book and they would make it interesting. :D

shareI think Viggo benefited from having less screen time, not to mention that when he finally appeared it was towards the end of the movie when there was less story-development to sit through.

Hey I agree that Viggo did the best with what screen time he had. As for me I just totally freaked out because when I recently saw "The Prophecy" again maybe 6 or so months ago and that's the very first time I noticed that it was Viggo Mortensen!!! You have to excuse me, but he was a bit actor back then, it was wayyy before a time when "GI Jane" and the "LOTR" movies came out so you gotta give me a pass in never noticing until recently that was him. I mean who would? In hindsight now that Viggo Mortensen is an established actor one can say "Holy ***! I never noticed that was him! but yeah it was a very good and memorable part. Still remember it till this very day.
Off the subject I recently saw the comedy "Liscense to Drive" with Corey Haim and Feldman. I saw this first run in the theaters when I was a teenager with my friends, and ofcourse through the years I've seen it once or twice on cable ofcorse. Recently saw it yet again not that long ago, and I got such a kick out of it because in all this time I finally realized that the main girl in it was a very young Heather Grahamn!! Before major stardom! Before Austin Powers, etc. These things do happen people!
viggo did what walken usually does - show up and steal the movie. walken was great. viggo left a major mark.
lemme tell you soething bout that heather graham. i am her age and i saw license to drive when i was a teen. i thought she was the most beautiful girl i'd ever seen and i memorized her name from the credits. waited a couple years and she was in drugstore cowboy. waited a few more, here comes boogie nights, i hear she's gonna be nude and i go see the movie in the theaters glad to plunk down my money to see this girl i've waited 10 years for, not knowing i'm walking into an all time classic movie .and of course she gets naked and i'm like 'thank you god, it was so worth the wait.'
I saw a screening of this before it came out, and I was totally wow'd by Viggo!
I sat and watched the credits to see who it was, and have watched his work ever since. I was SO glad when LOTR made him so popular! And I still say he did the most convincing Satan I've ever seen, including Al Pacino's chewing of the scenery. Viggo was more controlled, yet more deadly, it seemed. Really a great performance!
i agree. al was great being al. but viggo was a better satan. another great take on satan is (SPOILER ALERT) Deniro in Angel Heart.

You'll get no argument from me about that.
This was the first film I ever saw Viggo in. Let's say that his short appearance in this movie left an impression on me. I decided to check his name on the credits, so that I could keep my eye out for him. I filed his name away in the back of my mind and went on with things.
Fast forward a bit, to the point when I heard that they were going to be making a trilogy of LOTR. Naturally, a good cast is important for a trilogy like this. I then heard that Viggo was going to be playing Aragorn. Seriously, I kid you not, my first thought was "What? SATAN is going to be playing Aragorn? COOL!"
I have to disagree. To me, this movie was all Walken's. Don't get me wrong, though, I love Viggo, and I thought he was a particularly awesome devil. I also thought Elias Koteas and Eric Stoltz were great.
And now for something completely different...
I think he just really shone in the moments he was given...but walken had alot of his own as well, love those two
sharei have always considered CW to be a very under-rated actor. but i must agree that this film, as much as lotr or appalooza, really does highlight the excelence of VM as an actor of some considerable worth. the idea of the devil as a whispering quiet vague temptation rather than the goat-headed roaring monster with the flashing red eyes, huge bat wings & wicked sharp teeth stained with the blood of virgins was inspired, not to mention theologically closer to the truth, should you be a christian.
