why did they keep the oringnal virus from 1967 and why did they cover it up?

If they had the 1967 virus and an antidote and no one else did; then they had a significant biological weapon.

they always try to keep the original virus. In this case it seemed to be for a biological weapon but even if it wasn't, it's best to keep it for studies at the very least.
