Disgusting

Anybody think this movie is very disturbing in a gruesome way? People bleeding from their eyes? All the sick needle parts? Especially the sneezing in the movie theatre scene. This movie really bothers me and I am not grossed out easy.

The sad thing is that the Ebola virus, although not airborne...yet, does the same things as in the movie. It is classified as a hemmorhagic virus and pretty much liquifies the internal organs of a person producing bleeding from all openeings of the body. Not pretty, but very isolated in Central Africa.

It was a creepy movie but I really enjoyed it. It did make me cringe a few times though like when they were showing Jimbo for the first time when he was about to die, and when the body bags were being zipped up.

It made me cringe too but I think that was the point. The movie showed a very real global threat. I remember reading an account on the outbreak of Lassa fever in an African country (can't remember which, but I think it happened in the early 70s) back when I was in high school and it scared the heck out of me. Whereas in the movie the host was found and an antiserum made out of it, in the account that I read the host was never found, though the doctors thought it was most likely a rodent, and the virus disappeared as mysteriously as it came about in that village.

Honestly I found the display of the disease to be very very gentle. The effects of Ebola are so much worse and in a way I am glad that the Motaba virus was not portrayed like the Ebola virus. Vomiting blood? Bloody Diarrhea? If these things were showed in this movie, I'm sure alot less people would have been able to watch it. Yes the hemorrhaging from the ears and eyes was gruesome, but it was softer then the effects of Ebola.

reply

No it wasn't that disgusting. It was pretty mild for Ebola virus. It seems it should have been much worse but it might be too hard to watch.

Yeah, the Jimbo scene was disturbing, especially when his girlfriend was screaming that he died. The movie theater was very disturbing when it showed the virus in the air and then going directly into the laughing woman's mouth. That was an intense scene, very intense movie IMHO.

dying is not pretty. in anyway.

nah it was really toned down, the real effects of severe hemorrhagic fever are truly disgusting.

A better title for this thread would have been "disturbing". This movie is certainly disturbing on soo many levels because something like this could happen. Ebola is very similar to the disease portrayed in this movie except (thank GOD!) it's not airborne. I was thinking had CDC and doctors around the country had not gone to Africa when they did who knows how Ebola would have mutated. God is good.
