Funny, I didn't see any posts about his funny red hair. I wonder why they decided to do that. Great movie. The host monkey should have gotten an oscar! Maybe if they'd given him a speaking part?

It was kind of an odd choice, but speaking as a redhead, at least it looked real.

Funny, I didn't see any posts about his funny red hair.

No doubt there were posts about it, years back, that have since been culled by IMDb.

I remember it looking odd to me when I first saw the film, and wondering idly if it was an attempt to give his character some colour, both metaphorically and physically, or if it was actually intended to look fake, again as some odd characteristic for his character, or if it was simply a really bad job by the makeup department.

The things that go through your head while watching a film, eh?

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

It was certainly noticeable and makes his character stand out a little more.

Since, in reality, the guy is BALD I guess the director and make-up artist thought they could do what they wanted with his appearance.

In any case, I find him creepy and wouldn't venture out to see one of his films. Just wait for it to come on TV.

I did laugh when I first saw it, then immediately realized there's nothing wrong with trying to get into character by having one's hair dyed. I suppose it shouldn't be a distraction, but he had a fairly small part. No biggie.

What I don’t get is why bother? Why bother making a fictional character a different hair color if it has no bearing on the film.

One of my favorite “why did they do that?” in regards to hair in a film.

Richard Schiff (The West Wing) and Curtis Armstrong (Booger in Revenge of the Nerds) portrayed characters in the film Ray. They were pretty much paired in the film, both in whatever scenes either were in.

Now, Schiff is lacking hair in real life and Armstrong has more hair than he knows what to do with.

I mean, why bother? Save $ by having Schiff be the balding character and give Armstrong a quick hairstyling.
