store front name?

In the trivia for Mallrats, the Eden Prairie mall used in filming is said to have had several empty stores that were dressed up by the film crew to appear as operating stores.

One of the stores in the background of many scenes has the name, "Rug Mun..." or "RugMun..." as the store's name; the store name in large letters runs across the top of the store entrance.

The last letters of the second word are never shown, since the camera location was not changed. That allows the audience to see the store's partial name several times, with the end of the store name always hidden by other stores or the escalator.

Was that done to see if any audience member would figure out the store name?

akb, did you notice that when you first saw the film?

On the Netflix dvd of Mallrats was a filmed Q&A session between film crewmembers and an audience of Kevin Smith fans. No-one mentioned store names during that session, so nobody there recognized the store name or commented on it.

Yeah noticed it the first time I seen the film on dvd at my mates, he never noticed it before, and it was his dvd. On the dvd itself it has the full name, perhaps its been cut for tv. It shows the full name just over a minute into the film. Pretty noticeable. Also on the dvd commentary Smith also points it out.

It's what akb said it was in his first response. It's a double entendre, and it is fully visible in the film. Did you watch a TV-edit of the movie? It might have been purposely obscurred if that's the case.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

reply

As I said above, I saw it on the Netflix DVD.

It may have been fully visible there, and I just missed seeing it.
