Why do so many people blast this movie? (spoilers)

Yes, I can understand at the time it came out, it was unfavourably compared to Clerks because it wasn't as "intelligent" in it's humour. I for one found it a little hard to swallow that their girlfriends took them back giving the circumstances.

I still find it an enjoyable slapstick comedy and not to be taken too seriously, but I don't understand why this movie got blasted, but not the equally slapsticky and silly Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Both funny movies not meant to be taken seriously, but why does only one of them get blasted.

You answered your own question- When Mallrats came out, naturally it was immediately compared to Clerks, and it doesn't do well in that comparison.

By the time Jay & Silent Bob came out, it wasn't so surprising to see Kevin Smith do that sort of movie. And by then many people had already started saying things like "I just re-watched Mallrats for the first time since it came out, and y'know, it's actually not that bad."

But a lot people never softened and still hate it. *shrug* I definitely came to like it more than I did originally, but I'd still say it's one of Smith's weakest. It has its moments, but it's mostly dreck. And I will never stop cringing at Jeremy London's pathetic attempts at acting in this...

It's a bad movie, poorly written, amateurishly directed, filled with juvenile toilet humor and Jeremy London can't act his way out of a paper bag.
