Am I the only one who felt bad for the guy? sure he may have been a bit of a douche bag at times during the movie but I don't think he deserved what happened to him especially in the directors cut of the film.
On a personal note if I were Brandi's father I wouldn't have wanted her dating/marrying someone like TS either. The guy was worse then her father in my opinion
TS ruined his career, got him arrested and as a result ended up becoming a janitor on Brody's show now you tell me did he deserve that? TS was that undesirable as a potential son-in-law. He was smug, arrogant, condescending and showed no respect for his future father in law. In fact it would of been a funny twist if both Brandi and Rene turned gay for each other after all the sh!t their boyfriends put them through.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that, but you really hafta see the directors cut to understand. Svenning does come across as more sympathetic there, and he just really concerned about his career (which is why he sorta comes off as a kiss ass to the governer). The part after TS accidently shoots the governer and she rips up Svennings check where he scolds him made me feel kinda bad for him. The line "you're like all the other spoiled jerks ive ever known in my life!" was what really did it for me. Of course since they made him into more of a cartoon charactery type villian as the movie went on, my sympathy waned a little bit lol

That is what I hated the most about the movie.
Svenning wasn't a bad guy in fact he was a pretty tragic character when you really think about it. I would of liked the movie better if TS was trying to make things right with both Brandi and her father instead of just Brandi. Mallrats is nothing more then your typical revenge of the 90's teenage slacker type movies that were a dime a dozen back in that era.

Do you think Svenning would have cared if TS had genuinely tried to sort things out? I don't. He was a jerk. He didn't like TS, and nothing would have swayed him.
Actually, when TS and Brandi were arguing about her being on the show, I'm pretty sure he said something like "Brandi the guy hates me! Don't you think that has something to do with his decision to have you on the show?". Whatever the case, I still feel bad for Svenning a little bit. Doesn't he also get arrested for all the crap Brodie pulled as well since hes the producer, and also for puking on the cop?
Yeah he did he end up getting arrested for broadcasting multiple FCC violations and as a result of that he ended up becoming a janitor on Brody's show along with his brown-nosing assistant too.
What really sucks for him is that Brodie is the much worse out of the two of them, is the one who had the news crew film Svenning through his window, gets him sick and then sabotages his show while live. Then he ends up becoming a janitor on BRODIES show while he was actually the one who wanted to succeed in show business and did everything the right way while Brodie did absolutely nothing with his life. That has to be the worst of it all
I personally believe that if Brodie wasn't in TS life that maybe he and Svenning would of gotten along a whole lot better then they did.
The funny thing about the directors cut of the film is that it makes you sympathise more with one supposed villain i.e.: Svenning and yet makes you hate that other one even more with Shannon Hamilton.
