Claire Forlani's (AWFUL) American/English Accent

I understand that she is actually British, but my goodness her American accent in this film is awful. She did a horrible job, 90% of the words she says have a Brit/American tinge to them. The product of her bad attempt at an American accent is: silly pronounciation of literally every word she says in this film. I couldn't stand listening to her accent every time she spoke. Especially towards the end, during the game show. Absolutely awful. Does anyone feel the same way, or have any insight into this dilemma?

And people say that her English 'accent' in CSI:NY was appalling...

First time I saw Mallrats I didn't even know she was British at all till Kevin Smith mentioned it in his commentary.

OP makes it sound worse than it actually is. I probably only notice it in maybe one word during the film ("T.S, I cahn't go."), and that was after the fact I knew that she was English.

Yeah. It wasn't terrible. It's only really noticeable a few times.

Growing up as a teen in the 90s/2000's, I watched this movie a million times and always thought forlani was American. Then I researched her career later on and realized she was actually British.

Now when I watch the movie I can't not notice the slight British accent.

I noticed the inconsistency of it more than anything. In the opening scene where TS goes to pick her up in his car, she plays the whole young Jersey girl dialect well enough. Then at the end when she's on the game show, it's like a completely different voice, and her English accent is far more prominent.

that may be because they reshot the beginning after the original beginning at the Governor's ball wasn't received well. its terrible unfunny. at some point during the editing process they probably spoke to her about her accent and she tried harder during the reshoots

I noticed it at times but it did not bother me at all specially given the nature of the movie and the fact that i know she is British to begin with.

It was mostly noticeable in the Telescope scene.

It doesn't bother me much when British actors play Americans but it does bother me somewhat the other way around even when they do it right.

Note: I'm not an Anglo but i am still able to tell the difference.
