did anyone else tear up when sarah asked if Minchin's dad ever told her she was a princess- meaning her affirmed she was beautiful, smart, he loved her, etc? and she started crying? i know she was mean and all but it was because he never did, which is so sad, to not have one or both of your parents love you and think your perfect as you are.

i didnt say it did... I said it was sad, and i felt bad for her. maybe Im just sympathetic but i dont like hating people and i would want to help minchin even if she was mean to me. wh knows? she could turn out well in the end. =) this movie isnt exactly realistic anyway so it could happen lol

Felt sorry for her? After she clearly recognized Sara's father at the end there and yet had the police take Sara before he an investigation could even begin?

No, I definitely get what you're saying. People don't start out mean and cruel, they get that way because they themselves were hurt, and that is sad to be sure. I'm surprised none of the other users got the gist of what you were saying.
While I don't excuse Minchin's behavior, and while I don't even claim to like her at all, I do think it's unfortunate that her own childhood was likely as horrible as it was. She's a human being, too, and if she had had loving parents, she probably would have turned out kinder.
Guess you and I are the minority few with hearts. I felt genuinely bad for her, as I have a relative who also emotionally abused me like Miss Minchin did to Sara and as I grew up found out she too was abused as a kid (not that is rationalises what she did, but still).
