So does Sera *beep* him to death? Might be wrong, but this was my first impression of that scene.
Why didn't the author/producer choose another ending for Ben's character?

She has sex with him while he is dying. She isn't the cause of it

Well would have been good if Sera got him into rehab and they got married and lived happily ever after. But that's not real life. The author died by his own hand, so that's
the general reality depicted here. i.e. the book is a long suicide note, and the film is pretty faithful to that.

For who would bear the whips and scorns of Hollywood... (;-p)
