I thought everything else was complete garbage, including Cage's performance. Just my opinion.

The movie is far beyond alcohol 'struggles'. You think that every person who 'struggles' with alcohol wants to drink themselves to death?? Alcoholism just doesn't affect the addict- it affects everyone that they care about. I WANT YOU TO GIVE YOUR EXACT OPINION BEFORE YOU GO AND TALK ABOUT ALCOHOL "STRUGGLES". shareI agree with the OP. Since its release, I've heard how amazing this film is. I finally got around to watching it and could barely finish. The entire premise is ridiculous; why should I care what happens to this loser jackass? Cage is *beep* terrible. Shue is the only quality actor in the entire thing, and she does and excellent job. Otherwise, this was awful.
share Nick Cage is a terrible, terrible actor but he dug deep on this one and spent every last ounce of talent and honesty he had left at that point. He had shown some flashes of ability before this bit nothing since.
I think, and this isn't meant as an insult.. but I think people like you who hate the movie and think it has no merit have obviously never hit rock bottom.
Because Because you don't have to like the characters or enjoy the movie but it's hard for me to hear someone say Cage wasn't good or that the movie didn't have any merit. But oh well.
