just watched this after watching the 2017 Jumanji

I saw this film originally maybe over 20 years ago? I literally have no recollection except for a few scenes... Peter breaking the fourth wall... Carl's police car being taken by the vine. Anyway i watched this immediately after watching the 2017 and there is no comparison. This one still holds up even after 25 years despite the below average special effects. I find the characters in the 1995 film far more likable than the ones in 2017.

The only thing the 2017 film did better was the CGI, but thats because of the advancement of it over the years. This seems like the type of the movie that is great to watch once every couple of years, while the newer Jumanji seems like a film that you watch once only and forget about it. Loved the bittersweet ending to this as well.

I completely agree. The original is great and in my opinion the superior movie of all the Jumanji films.

OBVIOUSLY THE ORIGINAL IS BEST...THE NEW ONE IS SOLID THOUGH...A LOT OF FUN.

If I call the old one 1, and the others 2 and 3, I watched 1 many years ago, then 3 and then 2, then 3, and a few days ago 1 again.

They are different movies in genre. 1 is more of a kidfriendlier disaster movie. Stuff happens. Like stampedes or monkeys wrecking stores and stealing cars. Most of the stuff is unmotivated and just happens. There is a certain lack of plot. Not unlike the Jumanji board game. It is just the ancient goose game with 'splosions. Boring if you are an adult or know that sophisticated games exist. Just like the girl that refused to play, because she stopped playing dice game 5 years ago.

2 and 3 have more drama and character building. The stuff that happens is mostly powered by plot. Although all three have the tag comedy, the fun is more sophisticated in 2 and 3. In 1 it was slapstic.

I liked 3 the best.
