How does Van Pelt have an early 20th century hunting rifle when the game was last played in 1869?

Is there anything besides it being a plot convenience for Van Pelt to have money?

I think in the world of the game there is a city or town where he can buy stuff but it's years away from where we are now. Or maybe he is able to keep whatever gun he buys outside the game. It's possible maybe he can make bullets himself in some hut he has in the Jungle.

You’re assuming this because the gun shop owner says they stopped making these (bullets) in 1903, but the could have been making them (the bullets) well before 1869
