Did Judy die?

This might be thinking too much about it, but at the end when Alan and Sarah are trapped in the floor, a plant rips through the floorboards and shoots Judy in the throat with some sort of colourful spine.

Afterwards we see Judy straight-up collapse. After that scene, you never see her again. When I was younger and watched this movie, I truly believed she'd died from the poison. We learn earlier that those plants are highly dangerous, and Alan warns them all to avoid them. Then when Judy gets hit, she collapses. She talks to Peter briefly, but again, after that we never see her again.

Did anyone else feel the same way? Even watching it today, that seems to me what they were implying by not showing her or Peter again, that she'd actually been killed by the plant.

reply

Maybe except when the game finished it all went back to normal and we see Judy and Peter at the party at the end of the movie

reply

Yes but that's irrelevant to the original timeline of Alan when the game reset it back to when he was a kid. Alan runs to help the kids and the girl reminds him that those kids aren't even born yet. They have to now wait years before they are. That's what gave them the opportunity to prevent the kids parents from dying in an accident on a Canadian trip.
She could have definitely died from the plant poison in that timeline.

I just watched this movie, again. :)

I really hope she just passed out. I think her brother would've had a worse reaction if she were dying? But I guess it's all fixed at the end and everyone is alive.

reply

Yes she died but once Alan won the game it didn't matter, everything went back the way it was before.

reply

Yeah I think she died or was on the verge of death. They did imply she was in grave danger, she certainly wouldn't have survived if the game didn't end.

We see her in the end though so it doesn't matter

reply

I was just thinking about this myself. I definitely saw it as her dying and I remember being very upset.

I know everything was restarted at the end and she was fine but damn it was still a punch in the gut.

reply

This is definitely over-thinking it on my part, but if the plant is lethal, how does Alan have the experience to stay away from it? If it was just extremely poisonous, then it would be likely that Alan had been attacked by one in the jungle and had the experience to warn the others of it.

reply

It's possible while in the jungle, Alan saw the plants attack and kill some other animals so he knew to keep away from them when he saw them come out of the game. He wouldn't have to be the victim of an attack to witness the effects of the purple poisonous barbs.

reply

The reality is both Judy and Sarah die ( Sarah from the bullet) except Alan won the game.

reply

Die, die, die!
I kid, ask anybody.

reply

Yes. I believe she died.
