Irritating? IMO, I believe (racist) white people understand a lot more than they let on. People are people for the most part and it doesn't take a genius to figure certain things out due to the simple fact that were all people first no matter what our skin tones are. Now, I'm not talking about ALL white people cuz there are quite a few that are absolutely 100% sincere.

For the ones that aren't honestly sincere, they understand things but wont let on because they need an excuse to fall back on when they want to do something deviously racist. They need the excuse of "NOT KNOWING OR UNDERSTANDING BLACK CULTURE" so they can say, "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know." (Yea right.) They use that for just enough wiggle room to slip out of underhanded activities that they KNOW are wrong and they KNOW are racist. Its a practice of being cowardice. Just watch. Don't be fooled.
