Pacino vs. De Niro: Who had more prestige?

Just for curiosity's sake here are some of their most memorable films during their heyday:

Al Pacino:
*The Godfather
*Serpico
*The Godfather 2
*Dog Day Afternoon
*Scarface

Robert De Niro:
*The Godfather 2
*Taxi Driver
*The Deer Hunter
*Raging Bull
*Goodfellas

Who do you think was more well regarded, more revered, was more sought after by producers and directors, drove more people to see the film, etc.?

reply

Pacino by virtue of the fact that he hasn't made a fool of himself by discussing politics.

But if you want a strictly film-based answer, I would have to say they are equal. There's a reason Michael Mann put them together in Heat: They are equal, and similar, talents. Both have are about equally talented in terms of performance and in terms of the films they have appeared in.

Pacino.. He lays low and doesn't involve himself in Politics and allow TDS to get the Best of him lie Deniro

I noticed a long time ago when actors talk about acting ability, they always mention Robert De Niro, but not Al Pacino. Joaquin Phoenix said Robert De Niro inspired him and his brother River to become actors. Ethan Hawke said the best actors for him are Nicolas Cage, Robert De Nino, and Meryl Streep.

reply

yeah but who cares about Joaquin phoenix and ethanol hawke lol

reply

Pacino has the better filmography. and yes they were both in Godfather II but Pacino had the much bigger part.

reply

In this movie at least I was hoping for De Niro to make it out the country and Pacino to fail catch him. De Niro is the hero of this story

Pacino had higher highs, DeNiro had wider range. I think Michael Corleone in I & II is perhaps the greatest cinematic portrayal ever.
