Considering all the films that have gotten sequels over the years, it's a shame that Hackers was overlooked.

I really enjoyed the world the movie created and thought that Iain Softley had a great sense of style with this film. I remember when I first saw this movie at 14 years old, after renting it from Blockbuster, it made me want to go out and buy a computer and a pair of rollerblades IMMEDIATELY!

I also thought the cast of characters was fantastic and it's really interesting to go back and see actors like Johnny Lee Miller, Angelina Jolie, Matthew Lillard, Wendell Piece, Lorraine Braco and Fisher Stevens at that stage of their careers.

One more go around would've been great. While I'm pretty tired of all the reboots that have been pumped out by Hollywood over the past several years, in the case of Hackers, if done right, I might actually welcome the idea.

I would watch a sequel/reboot of this. Def not a great movie, but certainly watchable and entertaining just for how weird it was. I would be all for a sequel/reboot with some of the original cast returning.

This movie doesn't get enough credit. No, its not groundbreaking but its better than anything out now that makes millions of box office dollars.

Totally agree about a sequel! I would have loved it about two or three years after the first one. Same cast, same hijinks. Zero Cool was SUCH a great hacker name.

The thing about Hackers is that, love it or hate it, the movie is full of style and it's style that's all its own. Iain Softley really created a very interesting world within the film and, as I said in the OP, the film really had an impact on me when I was in my teens. Considering that it became a cult hit, I'm surprised a sequel was never made.

That was kinda was what the world of hackers was like up until about when the film was made. No one was in it for money. It was just a bunch of teenagers exploring and competing with each other.
It was about that time that the world was really getting dependent on computers, and these pesky kids had to be stopped . Enter the NSA. and the rewriting of computer abuse laws.
20 years later , the world is fully internetted , Hacking is a real crime - not least because the people doing it arnt curious explorers they are malware writing scumbags out here just to steal cash off people.
