Max's Mother

I know this has probably been talked about before but what about her? My theory is that Goofy was once married and she died early in Max's life (possibly even in childbirth). I know this is just a cartoon but I like to think of them as realisically as possibly (relatively speaking) which tends to bring out new depth to the story and characters.

Another theory is that Goofy is divorced but the dead wife scenario makes a lot more sense to me. I honestly think Goofy would be really careful in choice of a wife and they would have had a very happy relationship.

Any comments?

I take the former idea as well. No where in any of his shows does Max make any reference to his mom. No longing, no sadness, not even a mention of the woman. This suggests Max never knew his mother, and with Goofy playing both paternal & maternal parent, he didn't really feel the lack of one either.

I've played with the theory that Max's Goof Issues stem from his perceived 'goof' in his mother's death at his birth. Not wishing to deal with such a harsh responsibility (and therefore realize his innocence over such a 'shat happens' tragedy), Max used his dad as a scapegoat.

Could be, could be. I know Disney wouldn't actually go that deep but that's what we fans are for.

It's a good one for a fanfic of mine.

Anyhoo, if one wanted to visualize the tragic scene, one could take the "Mazur phones Goofy" scene and the "Close-up of Goofy saying: Lake Destiny" scene and portray them in a different context:

Goofy gets the phone, gets bad news from the hospital about his wife. He sinks into his chair utterly despondent. The Sun has forever set.

Goofy sees Max for the first time. Close-up of sad Goofy beaming a great smile. The Sun has risen again.

Really cool thoughts.

Er, if we take the 50s Goofy cartoons into canon, then...

Mrs. Goof was quite...'friendly' to the men around her.

There are several ways to reconcile the George Geef/Junior shorts with the Max Era:
1. Alternate universe. They have nothing to do with each other.
2. They are the same. Junior is a nickname for Max.
3. They are related but different times. Because Max ages in real time, and since he was 11-and-half in 1992, then he is set in the 1980s and beyond. Goofy referred to his high school years as occurring 25 years before 1992, meaning late 1960s. This would mean he would have been a child in the 1950s. Which means Goofy IS Junior and George Geef is actually Max's grandfather!

Goofy equals Junior? That actually would make sense!
