I found this depressing as a kid

I was only 8 when this movie came out and the dysfunctional father/son relationship was way too heavy for me at the time. Especially considering I really loved the show Goof Troop, where Max and Goofy were best pals and never let anything come between them. In retrospect I see how this mirrors the aging process in real life, where your parents are everything to you when you're a child and gradually transform into "the Man"/losers/enemies when you hit adolescence. A Goofy Movie is actually a surprisingly mature and well-observed meditation on this dynamic, which I fully appreciate as an adult. But when I was a kid, it really stressed me out that Max and Goofy were having such trouble getting along.

I'm finding it even more depressing as an adult ha. My 11 year old daughter is watching it for the first time and she just turned to tell me how sad it is and how bad she feels for Goofy

Yeah, it's way too real.

But I'm an adult now and I really like it now.

It's done well.
