I found this depressing as a kid
I was only 8 when this movie came out and the dysfunctional father/son relationship was way too heavy for me at the time. Especially considering I really loved the show Goof Troop, where Max and Goofy were best pals and never let anything come between them. In retrospect I see how this mirrors the aging process in real life, where your parents are everything to you when you're a child and gradually transform into "the Man"/losers/enemies when you hit adolescence. A Goofy Movie is actually a surprisingly mature and well-observed meditation on this dynamic, which I fully appreciate as an adult. But when I was a kid, it really stressed me out that Max and Goofy were having such trouble getting along.
