Comparison?

Can any die-hard lovers of the book tell me what they thought of the movie. I'm very reluctant to watch a movie of a book I love. I don't want the image of the movie to ruin the image in my head. Also, I didn't see a Brendan on the IMDB list, is he not existent in the movie? How different is it??

I seldom do the movie/book thing (watching one and reading the other); they're never the same and I end up disappointed with one of them. But I liked the books and the movie both. Characters' names were changed throughout, and there were other differences. Also, it's one movie, but based on a combination of two books: The Face On The Milk Carton and Whatever Happened to Janie?. The series continued on in a couple more books, as well. By the way, I saw the movie first; that's what lead me to read the two books. I wasn't disappointed. Hope that's a help.

I'm the same way. I usually don't like movies that were based off of books, especially if I've already read the book, but I really liked this movie. They changed some of the things around (like the surnames of both sets of parents, and maybe the location, too, I can't remember) but other than that, they made few changes, and if you like suspense, there was a lot more in the movie because of the flashbacks, the dark psycho -killer-movie like music, and the emotion from the actors. So if you like the book, I'd definitley watch the movie the next time it comes on.

The movie wasn't a very good adaptation of the books, most likely because they had to cram so much into such a short time. But then, the books could be irritating at times because there were so many inconsistencies throughout all of them. I always wondered how they got by the editors.
