Anyone else's favorite Die Hard movie?

I can understand the nostalgic love for the original but this one is a rollercoaster ride. It's gripping from start to finish and Jeremy Irons was just as memorable as Alan Rickman. 9/10.

Actually, I consider Die Hard 4.0 the second best.

Die Hard with a Vengeance is on par with the first.
Here's my ratings of them.
Die Hard 1 and 3-10/10
Die Hard 2-7/10
Live Free or Die Hard-6/10
A good day to Die Hard-5/10

Plus if you haven't seen the first one the villain's significance in the 3rd is lessened.

You CAN'T be serious! Die Hard 2 was filled with plot holes, mostly how an airliner running on just FUMES blows up in a massive FIREBALL.

Besides, I like 4.0 because I like Justin Long.

reply

Whatever. I myself find 4 entertaining but I prefer the first 3 movies. Besides that scene you mention when he blows up the airplane was awesome.

reply

Justin Long is a little dweeb, who gives a shit about him. And at least Die Hard 2 actually stars John McClane. Bruce completely loses the essence of the character in Die Hard 4.0 for the sake of keeping a PG rating. He can't even say his catchphrase without being censored.

reply

In a way 4.0 is like Die Hard: The Next Generation. An ageing McClane is completely confused by modern-day computer nerds like Long's and Kevin Smith's characters while making his own observations about the whole modern cyber world, whilst he struggles to discipline his willful and spirited daughter who has a thing for Long's hacker, who turn out to be kindred spirits as they bond over their shared ordeal with the terrorists, who are once again simply after lots of money and making a point.

What's not to like?

reply

More like Die Hard: Sterilized and Neutered. They Disneyfied the franchise for the sake of a few extra tickets. I argue that it would've done even better if they stayed true to the John McClane character. Logan is an example of where they went R-rated and it was the most successful movie in the franchise.

reply

Probably, and the jet fighter scenes are possibly the silliest up until the abominable Russia movie, but I'm willing to let that go.

reply

People have different opinions. I prefer the first three as well. At least the second, while being the weaker from the originals, is not PG-13 lame fest.

reply

Plus if you haven't seen the first one the villain's significance in the 3rd is lessened.

Agree. It's like watching El Camino without having seen Breaking Bad first.

reply

Nah, PG rated nonsense. They sold out with Die Hard 4.0.

reply

I should point out that to me, 4.0 is second best compared with the ORIGINAL, not that silly New York movie where Samuel L. Jackson is the real star of the show, and the helicopter ending was a cop-out since they didn't use the darker and more original tense ending.

reply

Frankly, the alternate ending is inferior. Mainly cause of the stupid premise of the FBI thinking John was in cahoots with Simon. Which makes no sense with what happened all through the movie. Also I don't agree with you at all Die Hard with a Vengeance is bad. To me it is superior to the 4th one in every way.

reply

Lmao i'll take Sam Jackson over Justin freakin' Long. Who the hell is a fan of Justin Long, you must be the first. And I don't know who Bruce Willis was playing in Die Hard 4.0 but it wasn't John McClane. McClane swears incessantly, they took away the essence of the character for the sake of appealing to kids.

reply

I don't care, I like it.

My rankings:

Die Hard
Die Hard 4.0
Die Hard WaV
Die Hard 2

And that's it.

reply

Still not really a Die Hard movie when he can't even say his catchphrase.

My rankings -

Die Hard with a Vengeance
Die Hard
Die Hard 2
Die Hard 4.0

Didn't even finish the last one and not going to.

reply

Fair enough that he didn't finish the catchphrase, but I thought there was a cut in which he DID.

And yes, at least we both acknowledge that the terrible movie set in Russia with McClane's son (ugh) is easily the worst of the lot, I just ignore it.

reply

And that's it.

... you're the one trying to convince people.

reply

Please don't remind us of the abominable 5th one.

reply

I get what you are saying. I also like the dynamic between Jackson and Willis. I too like this one better than the original.

reply

Me too

Love for the original Die Hard isn't just nostalgia...

Die Hard 10/10
Die Hard with a Vengeance 8/10

That's all I have in my blu-ray collection (I may have Die Hard 2 on dvd, can't remember for sure)

reply

I'm not saying it's all nostalgia, it's a great movie. Nostalgia just enhances the love for it.

reply

yes its my favorite one.

reply

Certainly better than 4 and 5...
