'The thing in LA'

"He speaks with a German accent, and for some reason, he's very angry with me."
He couldn't figure that out?

And something else that always bothered me was when Ricky says "the thing in LA!" You'd think McClane's coworkers would refer to it as "Nakatomi," or "just "LA," rather than something that made it sound like they heard about it from a friend of a friend. He was a coworker of theirs, on vacation from their force!

reply

True, they could have said "Nakatomi".

So McClane should just assume Hans had a brother that wanted revenge for something that happened years ago right off the bat?

You're right; someone starts bombing the city of New York and--out of all 12 million people in it--he chooses McClane to run around doing very weird things to risk his life. The only clue there is about him is that he speaks with a GERMAN accent . . . and the thought doesn't even come across McClane's mind that it might have something to do with a major incident in his life, where Germans were trying to kill him and his wife. He shouldn't at all have thought that there might be a connection.

The shrink mentions the caller having a German accent, and says that these calls were a personal attack towards John.

Remember, he had a bad f!#king headache, and he was hungover.....
All kidding aside, that's a very good point. It played a major role in his characters life, and he didnt mention that it could have had something to do with that. I think they were looking for that "gasp out loud" moment from the crowd.

I think even McClane would admit his deductive powers weren't at their cutting edge optimum on this particular morning.

Apparently one of Willis big beefs against DH2 is the constant mentions of DH.... this was probably just a throw away to acknowledged the past, but moving on.
