Jeremy Irons' bad American accent in that scene

That has always bothered me since I first saw this in the theater in 1995. I have no idea where he's supposed to be from, his accent is so bad. It's ridiculous that he couldn't do a better job and that the director didn't make him do better. Anyone else notice how bad it was? Otherwise it's my favorite DH movie.

You didn't notice that Rickman is crap at them too? His attempt always bothered me in 1. I thought it was a plot device until I watched another film where he played an American. He was atrocious.

There's a slim chance Iron's bad one in 3 is intentional, a throwback to 1.

He was supposed to be from Germany LIKE HIS BROTHER.

"Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs..."

That was supposed to seem over-the-top to us.

He was supposed to be from the south. But yes it was bad.

It's an Englishman playing a German who is pretending to be an American.

^ Exactly. Like Dominic West, who is an English man playing an American who's doing an English accent by an American.
