Why didn't McClane just throw the bomb away right away?
He's in a fast moving train and I'm pretty sure he knew that the bomb wouldn't go off if it hit something hard.

shareIf he just tossed it out the nearest window and it went off, he would have been killed along with every passenger. He might have known that the bomb wouldn't go off by hitting something, but he definitely didn't know WHEN the bomb would go off.
Just tossing it was not a chance he was willing to take. He needed to transport the bomb to the back of the subway to reduce the chance and amount of casualties. Hence why he says, "FVCK!!" when it started mixing before he could get there. So he instructed the passengers to move the front while he proceeded to the back.
His actions saved everyone on that train.
- The General has spoken.
@General_Friday I always laugh at that bit. MCClane's being so calm and professional - when he goes "Fυсk!" you know that he's in trouble.
shareAt that point, the bomb wasn't armed so he didn't want to scare the passengers by throwing it out the back of the train. When it started to mix, he knew he had no choice but to do that.
