John holding up the sign

I have a hard time believing that that group of black hoodlums several yards in the background, can't see a white man of all people standing there as plain as day, holding a big sign that says 'I hate *beep* And then weirdly when Zeus is stood there talking to him, most likely obscuring the sign, that's when one of the hoodlums spots it?

I really like this movie, and that moment, but that almost feels like a goof.

What the F@#k

Best scene in the whole movie

The "group of black hoodlums" were mucking around with each other and a basketball, clearly distracted and not facing his direction. They had no reason to look over and the sign was only facing them for a few seconds, then largely obscured by zeus. They probably would have caught a glimpse in their peripheral vision of a guy standing down the street.

It is only when the guy looses control of the basketball out in to the road that causes him to look that way in case of cars coming, that he has any reason to look that way, plus he is out in the street so his view is no longer completely blocked by sam the man jackson.
